an evening in the mountains – boulder family photography

People always ask me what we will do at a session. My answer is typically to explain that we will play. This session is a perfect example of what I mean. I don’t shoot from a shot list. Instead, I play, prompt, watch, and shoot what I see. One of my number one goals is always to become friends with my littlest clients.  I do not bribe. I have found that if the kids are genuinely having fun it’s easy to get their little smiles and laughs.

I’ve known this family for a while, but had never photographed them. We had such an amazing time last weekend exploring South Mesa Trailhead. After we checked out the fields (and found several grasshoppers and ladybugs), we went down by the river to throw rocks. It was such an amazing evening at one of my favorite locations in South Boulder. I hope you all enjoy a few of my favorites from our time together.
